Shining’s new album One One One has been nominated for “Metal Album of the Year” in Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Shining started out as an acoustic jazz quartet before migrating over to harder and heavier territories with their breakthrough album Blackjazz in 2010. Along the way they have been nominated and received awards both for their jazz music and for their current genre Blackjazz. This nomination is the band’s fifth for Spellemannprisen.

Metal nominees for 2013:
– Shining, One One One
– Kvelertak, Meir
– Satyricon, Satyricon
– Obliteration, Black Death Horizon

Shining’s front man Jørgen Munkeby comments:

“Being nominated for the fifth time in a row is a great sign of our music’s constant quality. This year’s metal category is especially hard-hitting with many of Norway’s most established metal acts. That’s a great company for an old jazz band!”
